description

Computer science has changed the world as we know it, and it will continue to have a profound on our lives for future generations. As a result, children must learn the basics of computer science from an early age to generate the technological advancements that align with society's needs.

In this course, students will learn the fundamentals of programming through SPIKE, Lego's newest Mindstorms® product. Not only will this serve as an introduction to programming, but it will adequately prepare students for First Lego League, an international Lego robotics competition.

curriculum

In the first week, students will learn how to use various motors and sensors to maneuver their robot and control it in several ways. At the end of the first week, students will compete in a remote robot-sumo wrestling competition. In the second week, students will learn more complex functions and algorithms. For the final project, students will build and complete their own obstacle course.

requirements

This course is open to students from ages 8 to 13. Students must have a SPIKE or Robot Inventor kit to participate in the course. Students must have a laptop or desktop running either macOS or Windows.
